Alternating between lines and shapes, she sits for hours until, at last, her design is finished.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]For senior Julie Joo, art is more than just a hobby: it’s her future. In the fall, Joo will be attending the Rhode Island School of Design, where she plans to major in industrial design. Industrial designers develop functional products to be mass-produced.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]”I hope I can create products that help other people,” Joo said. “RISD has a really good faculty and an excellent industrial design program.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Joo devotes time to her craft both in school and out. It is with the support of multiple people that she is able to continue doing what she loves.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]”My parents and my art teachers have supported me through a tough journey to be where I am,” Joo said. “They are constantly encouraging me.”

The time and effort Joo has devoted has helped to further her skills as an artist, according to art teacher Ellen Kudlicki.

“Julie came to the class with an already developed sense of design,” Kudlicki said. “I think her AP Studio concentration was demonstrative of the scope and depth of her work. She’s a storyteller as well as an excellent technician.”

“RISD is basically as exclusive as Harvard or Yale,” Kudlicki said. “To have one student heading there from Hebron is great. To have three students heading there is phenomenal.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]According to Kudlicki, she is confident that the talents of the students attending art schools in the fall will take them far.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]”Any or all of them could become designers to watch in the future,” Kudlicki said. “Having that link to Hebron will make it more of a possibility for future Hebron students to aspire to that elite level of academic and artistic accomplishment.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][image_with_animation image_url=”9321″ animation=”Fade In” img_link_target=”_self” alignment=”center” img_link_large=”yes”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Although the road to success may be full of obstacles, Joo says that anyone looking to pursue art shouldn’t doubt their abilities.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]”Don’t ever give up on your pieces,” Joo said. “You are talented.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Joo has spent the last few years exploring different medias and styles to discover her artistic niche. She says she does art for many reasons, but one stands out from the rest.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1”][vc_column_text]”Junior year was a tough time for me, and I realized art was the only thing I had left,” Joo said. “I do art because it’s comforting.I feel like it’s what I can contribute to make the world better someday.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
