Ever since he was young, junior Grant Shamblin said he has had a passion for fighting for what he believes in. Shamblin has been in debate since freshman year, and has managed to find his passion for law from debate even while participating in clubs and managing the stress of junior year.

“I’m involved in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and debate team,” Shamblin said. “I enjoy playing guitar, reading and tutoring kids in my neighborhood [as well].”

Shamblin said that along with difficult classes, he works hard on debate, as it prepares him for what he wants to do as a career.

“Debate team has definitely helped me learn to convey ideas more clearly when writing essays and free response questions for various classes,” Shamblin said. “I’d like to enter a law profession someday, so the debate team helps me prepare for that.”

Since Shamblin wants to have a career in law, he said finding the debate team has been good for him because he can do what he loves and make new friends, while also pursuing his interests for a career.

“I’ve always been interested in government, current events, and political science,” Shamblin said. “I love getting to learn about these things on the debate team and I hope to continue to pursue them in the future.”
