Photo Gallery: Black History Month assembly
Student council organized the first ever Black History Month assembly that was performed on Feb. 24 during A Block in the auditorium. The assembly provided information on Black History and how it is American History. Poems, slideshows and dance and singing performances all took place during this assembly as a celebration. Many organizations such as JROTC, orchestra, the step team, ShowTime, were involved in the program.
Guest speaker Dr. Michael Waters, an activist and pastor, ended the assembly with a message for the students.
“I hope that [the students] have learned that Black history is truly American history,” Waters said. “We must continue to celebrate races and ethnicity in this nation, because as a nation of immigrants, it is our corporate experience that makes us strong.”
