A new career center set to replace the current Dale Jackson Career Center in August 2020.

The district is holding a contest to rename Dale Jackson, which will be rebuilt with the 2017 bond money, and Career Center East. The deadline for entries is Dec. 14.

The LISD Board of Trustees is planning to award the person who submits the winning name with a $500 Nebraska Furniture Mart gift certificate. There is no cash value provided for the Nebraska Furniture Mart gift certificate.

The district will not accept entries named after a person, place or geographic area. Students are allowed to complete the form multiple times if they wish to submit more than one name. If the winning name is submitted by multiple people, they will be entered into a random drawing for one person to receive the gift card.

Medical terminology and health science teacher Rachel Chesney was a part of the naming committee before it dissolved into a submission contest.

“I love that they are making the renaming a contest for the students,” Chesney said. “Having the students involved in the process will give them pride and ownership of their school, and that’s always a good thing. I am looking forward to having a building that better meets the needs of the teachers, students and community. We are a tight knit bunch at DJCC, and my hope is that we stay focused on our faculty and students as a family.”
