Student Council will host the 18th annual Mr. Hebron pageant on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Fifteen senior boys will compete for a $500 scholarship. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The judges panel will consist of girls from area high schools. Judges are in charge of scoring contestants during each section of the show. The pageant will begin with an introduction of all 15 candidates followed by formal wear, swimwear and talent sections.

“It’s really cool just seeing all the guys dressed up,” emcee Ireland Beverly said. “I’m just really looking forward to this experience as a senior to just being able to be involved with something like that, because I’m really just soaking everything in right now.”

Student council president Karishma Cordero will co-host the show with Beverly.

“So far right now we have just been writing the script and stuff,” Beverly said. “I guess my favorite part is being able to be behind the scenes and learn everything that’s going on and what makes Mr. Hebron.”

Senior Cole Phillips is a contestant in the pageant. He has been involved in football, theater and journalism during his years at Hebron. He is planning to play the guitar and sing “Everlong” by the Foo Fighters for his talent portion of the contest. Phillips said he is looking forward to the opening dance number.

“Everyone has fun watching people who think they are really cool go up on stage and do a dance choreographed by the Silver Wings, which involves extreme movements of the body not typically done by 17-year-old dudes,” Phillips said. “I think it’s going to be funny to make a fool of ourselves in front of everybody.”

Senior StuCo officer Keegan Smith is helping organize the event. She said the job has improved her confidence and time management skills.

“A lot of the boys won’t want to get up and make a fool of themselves, but that’s when the show is best: when they’re funny and look like fools,” Smith said. “Seeing all my friends do their talent portions is going to be really fun.”

The $500 scholarship is funded by StuCo membership dues and funds raised during homecoming, food drives and other events held throughout the year.

“I think that there is a very talented group of individuals who are participating this year, and I think if I won it would be pretty cool,” Phillips said. “We’ll see what happens.”
