Sophomore Lia Okkamor jumps up to hit the ball at a practice before school on Sept. 26. The team practices every week depending on the day it’s either in the morning or after school. “My life revolves around volleyball, so it gets hard to manage my other work,” Okammor said. “I can overcome it.”

Volleyball will play against Irving Nimitz at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 p.m. in the main gym.

This will be the team’s first time playing Irving Nimitz this season. Irving Nimitz hasn’t been a tough competition for the girls yet. The team hopes to try out new strategies during the game to try something new and learn from it.

“They are the best team in Irving. Irving schools are the lower schools in the district, but we still have to play to their level,” Okammor said. “This game we are planning on using new plays just to try something new and make it a learning experience.”

The team is off to a 2-2 start in district with wins against Lewisville and Irving and losses against Marcus and Flower Mound. Okammor said the coaches are pushing the team to improve as the season goes on.

“[The coaches] want the best for us, so sometimes they push us because they want us to do better.” Okammor said. “There’s days when they are really nice and there are some days where they push to do better and improve.”
