[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]For this year’s all-school musical, the Fine Arts Department will be performing the musical “Peter Pan” Jan. 24-26. Starting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24, the cast will embody characters we all know and love.

Rehearsing since October, Head Theatre director Dusty Thompson has big expectations for his cast and crew.

“We have a very diverse group this year,” Thompson said. “I mean we have a soccer player, Silverwings, Stuco students, all coming together for this show. So, I think they can best show off their talent.”

This production of “Peter Pan” will be a fresh take on the old classic, featuring more characters, more dance numbers and “bigger tricks.”

“I think that most people know the Disney version [of ‘Peter Pan’],” Thompson said. “However, in this one, there’s more characters such as Eliza the maid and we even get introduced to Wendy’s daughter, Jane, at the end.”

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The one thing that sets this play apart from the previous productions is that the actors are literally going to “take flight,” with the help of a fly system. Lead actress Peyton Roberts said, that all though she is excited, it’s a very taxing process.

“The flying is intense,” Roberts said. “Right now, we’re learning the proper techniques, we’re learning all the blocking, and how to hold out the notes longer with all the pressure on your abdomen and your legs in the air.”

According to Roberts, the wonder of the play is all thanks to the directors, especially the new technical theater director, Thomas Legalley.

“My expectations are so high because these songs are like no other and it’s a classic within itself,” Roberts said. “I think ‘Peter Pan’ is a lot different because of the crowds were going to draw. It’s just a chance for people to be their inner kid and make it their own.”
