The UIL One Act Play Competition begins.

The theater program is hosting three schools for the UIL Zone One Act Play Competition on March 7. Lewisville High School, Southlake Carroll High School, Euless Trinity High School, and Hebron will all perform 40-minute one act plays. The three schools with the highest score will advance to the UIL District One Act Play Competition.

Hebron will be performing a cut edition of Elizabeth Rex. Elizabeth Rex is about a meeting between William Shakespeare and his crew of actors and Queen Elizabeth on the night where her lover is to be executed.

“We’ve prepared a lot over these last couple months,” senior Bailey Ray said. “Coming down to the competition, finally getting to run the show, and seeing the final product, makes me feel really confident about the art we’ve created.”

The cast has been rehearsing since January. The actors began by doing background research about the time period, breaking up the play into sections, assigning motives to each character, and doing extensive character backgrounds. Elizabeth Rex will perform at 4:30 p.m., with free admission for everyone.

“I feel very excited,” junior Rayan Moosa said. “I feel that all the work that we put into the show is all going to be worth it. We’ve worked so hard, and I know all my castmates have put in so much effort and time into this process.”
