Students can bring canned food and other items to help Student Council Nov. 9-16.

Student Council is hosting the 16th Annual Canned Food Drive Nov. 9 -16 to help people in the Hebron community.

The drive is a second period class competition, in which students bring cans, toiletries and money. One item is equivalent to one point, and $1 is equivalent to two points. The second period classroom with the most points will be awarded with a pizza party and the class with the highest ratio of cans per student will receive a cupcake party.

Students are encouraged to bring canned fruits and vegetables. Dried food items like cereal pasta, rice, soup, or stuffing are also requested. Toiletries such as shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and toilet paper will also be accepted; cat and dog food and cash donations are also needed.

“It’s important to always help people who are less fortunate,” sophomore student council officer Sarina Attri said. “Participating in our canned food drive is even better because the food helps kids in our own feeder pattern.”

The overall goal of the drive is to raise $18,000 worth of cans and money to people in need in the community.

“I think that the food drive is important because it’s going to help people in our school,” junior student council officer Maddie Edwards said. “It’s really motivational to know that we’re actually helping people we know, as well as the people in our community.”
