The Junior State of America (JSA) will hold a voter registration drive during block lunch by the cafeteria on Sept. 25 and 26. Students interested in registering to vote must be at least 17 years and 10 months of age.

“Young adults have the lowest voter turnout for midterm elections nationwide,” JSA president Sanjana Yadav said. “Many students write off midterm elections as unimportant, but they’re actually some of the most important elections we have because Congress, not the president, largely determines the laws. We want to ensure that students, no matter where they lie on the political spectrum, are aware of and exercise their right to vote this November.”

Last year, a group of juniors, including Yadav, registered over 100 students in May.

“We think that it’s really important that students are aware of and exercise their political rights,” Yadav said. “If we establish that idea now, students are much more likely to be active voters later in their lives.”
