Three to see, two to miss: May edition

Let’s admit it, I may not know everything about every movie that comes out, but I can definitely tell you the ones I want to see and ones I’m going to miss. So please enjoy my opinions on the movies coming out in May, even though you didn’t ask for it.

To see:

Captain America: Civil War

Starring: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Martin Freeman, Paul Rudd, Jeremy Renner

Release date: May 6

I’ll be honest, I thought the premise of this movie was kind of dumb. Why would an elite organization of superheroes break down to fight each other? Wouldn’t that cause more harm than help? But all that changed after I saw the trailer. I mean, Spiderman is going to be in it? Yes, please.

The Lobster

Starring: Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, John C. Reilly, Lea Seydoux

Release date: May 13

I’ve been excited to see this movie ever since it killed at Cannes. The premise of “The Lobster” is as weird as it gets: single people are required to find love or they get turned into the wild animal of their choice. I love it.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Olivia Munn, Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac

Release date: May 27

It seems that this month I’ve fallen prey to over-budgeted, star-studded superhero movies. I’m basing my opinion of this movie on the prequel, “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which was in one word: incredible. The cast is great, the plot is great, so what could go wrong?

To miss:

The Angry Birds Movie

Starring: Jason Sudeikis, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Keegan-Michael Key

Release date: May 20

The cast is incredible, but I can’t seem to understand why they would do this movie. An Angry Birds movie? I think it’s pretty self-explanatory why I’ll be missing this one.

Alice Through the Looking Glass

Starring: Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman

Release date: May 27

Without the kooky and creative mind of Tim Burton, I don’t see this movie working. Even with Burton as the director, the first movie was a flop and I don’t have high hopes for this one either. As far as I can see, the plot is dry and I think we’re all a little tired of going to Wonderland.
