[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]As I looked down at my watch, I realized that time is ever fleeting. For some reason, in my 17 years of living, this has never hit me before. No matter how slow or fast I walk, time will always be passing. There will always be minutes and seconds that go by without a worthy thought. No matter how quickly my thought process regenerates, there will always be a remote past and a looming future. Living in the moment is perpetually fading.

Past memories. Past regrets. Past habits. Past dreams.

Future hopes. Future fears. Future goals. Future dreams.

We look to the past. We look to the future. But we forget about now. Instead of living in the moment, we focus on the past and the future. We are so consumed with yesterday and tomorrow that we forget about today.

Despite our never ending complaints that time is moving too slow, or too fast, we never stop to relish the present time.

I am as guilty of this as everyone else. Because I am a senior, I look to my childhood and thoughtlessly wish I could be a child again, without a care in the world. And then I look to my future and thoughtlessly wish I could be in college, independent and free. Instead of fervently marking the milestones that senior year brings, I just wish I was in a different place in time.

But the time is now.

No matter how hard I try to escape it, this is my present tense. This is my reality. In order to come to grips with this, I need to take a step back. I need to evaluate how I got to this place and what I want to do in life. This assessment allows me to be in the here and now. Every so often, the watch in my brain needs a new battery, so it doesn’t lag in the past or jump to the future. It needs to stay consistently in the second, minute and hour that is now.
