“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” was released on Oct. 1, with the continuation of the story of protagonist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his parasite, Venom (Hardy). With the long-awaited cinematic debut of antagonist Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) and his parasite Carnage ( Harrelson), the action is entertaining as can be, but the plot holds the movie back from being anything more than another superhero movie.

Since I can remember, I’ve been a fan of Spider-Man and all of his enemies, including his arch nemesis, Venom. When I heard about the first film in this franchise, “Venom,” which came out in 2018, I was so excited to finally see a comic-accurate Venom. The movie did not disappoint, and it made me so excited for the second film in the franchise.

The sequel starts off with Brock interviewing criminal Kasady to find more information about the murders he committed. Brock finds the victims bodies and Kasady is given the death penalty for those murders and previous murders. From this point, the movie goes all over the place. In addition to the fact that Cletus is given the death penalty without being properly convicted, the plot lines don’t do much to progress the story, and I felt like the plot lines dragged out.

If you look past the movie’s convoluted storyline and basic superhero tropes, it’s actually pretty decent. Carnage carried the movie with his sporadic action scenes showing off how threatening the antagonist is to not just the city, but to Brock and Venom. The action in the movie was way better than I expected it to be due to the PG-13 rating, but it came through in being just as good without having to be more violent.

Overall, the movie loses everything that made the first film so memorable, such as the hilarious interactions between Brock and Venom. While the two characters were separated for a good chunk of the movie, the movie started to feel less like a superhero movie and more like random events happening with characters.

The movie, while lacking in plot, has some interesting fight scenes that are entertaining. Other than that, this movie is just another decent watch if you’re looking for some action.
