Demon Slayer was the first anime I had ever watched.
My older sister and I were sitting on my living room couch during the heat of summer. I always knew this was an anime I wanted to watch from the videos online; so when I got the opportunity to watch it, I immediately pressed play. As I watched episode after episode, I would have never known how this show would launch me into the world of anime.
The first movie of the “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” trilogy released in the U.S. Sep. 12 – previously released in Japan July 18. The movie is one of three movies overlooking the ending to the Demon Slayer manga, containing the “Infinity Castle Arc” and “Sunrise Showdown Arc.” The first movie is over three of the five major battles within the “Infinity Castle Arc.”
The quality of the battles I watched on the big screen blew me away. The Demon Slayer art style has always been unique – differentiating itself from other anime – but this movie pushed that style to the next level. The background of each fight, flashback and in-between scene is stunning.
The fight scenes are quick enough for fast action, and slow enough for the watcher to follow – a perfect balance for the watcher’s enjoyment. The movie’s already high quality is elevated by the detailed composition in key scenes and the strategic use of color to highlight differing opinions. During an important discussion between two soon-to-battle opponents, the movie uses red versus gold colors to show each side with differing ideals and opinions, giving me chills.
These differing opinions show up often within the movie. The story shoots into flashbacks explaining the stories of characters and how the world they lived in shaped who they became. These clashing ideals lead to significant plot points and success within these major battles. It shows how the story was written to give detailed, deep topics without openly explaining it through dialogue.
The battles within the movie gives the exact amount of suspense the previous storytelling hyped up. Each time I saw a major scene within the movie, my heart raced wondering what was next. It made the long two and a half hour run time go by quickly.
“Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” delivered exactly what the fans love. From its quality animation to its storyline and easy to watch battle scenes – everything showed just how much love and dedication was put into the film for audiences across the world.
