Photo Gallery: HASA Diwali Celebration
The Hebron Asian Student Association (HASA) and Lewisville LEOS organized a Diwali celebration on Oct. 21 in the Hawk Arena to celebrate the Hindu festival of lights. The event lasted from 5 to 7 p.m. and featured dancing with traditional Bolly music, clothing like kurtas and South Asian food. The official worldwide celebration of Diwali was on Oct. 24.
Numerous pairs of shoes are left behind as people dance on the arena floor. It is a custom to dance barefoot or without footwear in South Asian culture for beauty and stability reasons.
