Senior Perry Aubrey gets in his starting position in preparation for the practice 100-meter run. The team practices every day during fourth period.

Track and field will compete in the District 6-6A Championships on April 9-10 at 2 p.m. at Marauder stadium in Flower Mound.

“We are definitely looking forward to the championships,” coach Montrell Pyron said. “We have used our precious meets to prepare, and we have had some success throughout the season. Now, I think we are ready to give it our all at district.”

The team has been practicing for the past seven weeks by focusing on different aspects like speed and endurance during each practice.

“Everything leading up to district is like a practice,” Pyron said. “Workouts happen throughout the week and they have been going great. We usually have a meet every Thursday or Friday, and we use those meets to test ourselves to see where we are.”

After the championships, the team’s focus is to keep moving forward into higher-level meets. If the team qualifies at the championships, they move on to the Area meet, where the top four contestants in each event from each district will compete.

“Right now our focus has been staying sharp,” Pyron said. “Now we have practiced our skills and we just want to make sure they are staying at their best. Our number one goal is to continue the rounds. After district there’s area, [then] regionals, [then] state, so each one of these meets now will be a qualifying meet for us.”
