The choir department will perform its annual spring show in the auditorium on May 9-10. Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for reserved seating.
“We have talented choreographers that have helped with our spring show,” junior Shekinah Raiborde said. “The songs that we’re singing are fun and entertaining, and I’m excited.”
Students will sing one song with their own choir and two songs with all choirs combined. There are four choirs that will be performing: Concert Tenor Bass, Concert Treble, Belle Chanson and the A Cappella choir. Two additional groups will also be joining them: the Varsity Tenor Bass Choir and the Harmony Show Choir.
“I’ve learned a lot of skills and valuable lessons this year that have taught me a lot,” Raiborde said. “I hope the audience leaves feeling happy, like they got what they came for.”
The pieces that will be played with all classes are “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and “Better Place” by NSYNC. “From Now On” by Hugh Jackman will be performed by the A Cappella choir. “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan will be performed by the Varsity Tenor Bass choir. “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus will be performed by Concert Treble, and “Can’t Catch Me Now” by Olivia Rodrigo will be performed by Belle Chanson.
“If you were to look at [all] choirs [at] the beginning of the year [compared to now], you would see such a huge difference,” senior Greta Knight said. “So many [choir members] have genuinely taken the time to learn and better themselves.”
The spring show is meant as a goodbye to the seniors in the program, Knight said. At the end of both shows, each willing senior will sing a solo of their choice. There will be a slideshow of the seniors’ baby photos at the end.
“We allow each senior to have their own moment before they graduate,” Knight said. “It’s a major part of the spring show, and [it’s] definitely bittersweet for everybody.”
This year, the choir earned sweepstakes, which means superior scores at UIL across all choirs.
“I would describe our this year’s journey with the word dedication, because we’ve all been putting so much effort into our music,” Raiborde said. “Everyone coming and working together as a team [makes] a difference, and it’s what makes us as good as we are.
