Sophomore Emily Batchelor runs toward the basket during practice. The Allen tournament is the second tournament the girls will play in this year’s season.

The girls won second place at the Baytown tournament held in Beaumont United, TX last Friday. Their current overall record is 2-1. Junior Zosia Rej said she feels the team is prepared for the upcoming tournament.

“Just coming from our last few games, I think the match is going to go well,” Rej said. “Especially because we have been practicing a lot and trying out new things.”

Rej said head coach Lisa Branch has implemented new techniques to make the team stronger and has created a comfortable environment for the girls to practice.

“Coach Branch has really taught us what it means to be a team and she’s done so much for the team,” Rej said. “She’s really helped us focus on the mental aspects of a game [and] has created a good group environment.”

Branch said the team needs to work on making their offensive side stronger. Playing in tournaments shows the team what techniques they are good at and what they need to work on.

“Playing in tournaments is good for us,” Branch said. “It shows us things we need to improve on and shows us some things we are doing well. We are playing against some of the top teams in Texas, so it really becomes a game where we can learn to improve.”
