The volleyball team will play against Lewisville Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the arena. This will be their fifth district game of the season. The team remains undefeated.
“They did a good job of taking care of finishing business,” head coach Rachel Buckley said. “But, we have a lot of room for growth. We have a lot of things that we still need to work on and fine-tune to take into the second ride to district.”
Setter Kinley Nicholls is currently sidelined due to tearing her ACL during pre-season practice. With no other seniors playing, the majority of the team consists of juniors and sophomores.
“It’s been hard adjusting and trying to click with the juniors and sophomores,” Nicholls said. “But, as we play more games, I can see us getting more connected.”
Despite the change, the team defeated Marcus, Guyer and Little Elm High School. The team ranks second in the district with a 4-0 record.
“In one of the sets, we were able to come back from [being] down by a lot of points,” outside hitter Taylor Johnson said. “I think that showed a lot about our team.”
Off the court, Nicholls said the team’s locker room routine helps keep the energy up before matches.
“Before games, we have a little talk, get ready, do our jumpropes, have a little dance party and [then] do a little prayer,” Nicholls said. “I love the dance parties – they really get me hyped – but, I also like [to have] alone time before games [to] get me ready.”
Looking ahead, Buckley said she has clear goals for the upcoming match. She hopes to win the game in three sets.
“I want to start seeing [the girls] execute things that we work on during practice,” Buckley said. “Getting our middles more involved, closing the block on defense, no dropped balls and [consistent passing]. Those are my goals going into Lewisville.”
