The football team will play their last home game against Braswell Oct. 31 at Brian Brazil Stadium at 7 p.m. The Hawks have a 3-5 record so far this season, while Braswell has a 2-6 record.
“It’s our last game here at the Woodshed and at Brian Brazil Stadium, it’s really gonna mean a whole lot for us too,” defensive end Jack Vary. “I hope that our fight and determination to win is continuous with the underclassmen as well.”
The Hawks rank No. 92 in the state, while Braswell ranks No. 249. Last year, the team played Braswell and won with a final score of 38-0.
“We’re going to have to plan some of the things they do defensively,” Towels said. “We got to put them in some bad situations.”
Towels said linebackers Pharrell Giddins, Michael Carney, Aaron McCardell, Cortland Witkoff and Dillon Collins will be key players for running the ball.
“It’s a must win game if we want to make the playoffs,” outside linebacker Cortland Witkoff said. “We have to win each of the next two [games]. We have to go one to zero this week, next week and then it’s the playoffs.”
The Hawks ended their last game against Lewisville with a final score of 43-45. Towels said the team doesn’t have any injuries.
“I don’t want to come out of my last time playing at the Woodshed with a loss,” Vary said. “I’m going to give it my all out on the field.”
Braswell’s running back Zahir Truffaut compiled over 180 yards this season. Towels said he’d be a key player for their offense.
“The biggest thing [I am hoping to see] is to play a complete game, like we played last week,” Towels said. “I think going to the playoffs, you want to be playing a full game all four quarters for sure.”
