Lewisville High School is hosting its 13th annual Angel Tree, a gift donation drive that supports newborns through 19-year-olds in the LISD school district, who cannot afford to buy their own items.

The students are chosen by school counselors who collect a list of all the students “needs” and “wants”.

“In 2002, our campus first experienced adopting angels as an entire school and the experience was amazing,” event coordinator Allison Stamey said. “We watched classes come together to collect money, buy gifts, wrap gifts and bring to us.”

After the gifts from the first successful drive were delivered, Stamey found out that the gifts didn’t go to a specific child, but to a store.

“Starting in 2003, I began the LHS Angel tree by contacting our school counselors to help our students,” Stamey said. “The following year I added our feeder schools and five years ago, we started runnings the LISD Angel Tree.”

Stamey believes that the program is a way for classrooms and school groups to join together as a district to help families at LISD.

“It is a fun project for student groups and getting things to make a child’s holiday complete, that would normally not receive anything, gives each student and faculty member involved an overall feeling of happiness.” Stamey said.

If you would like to adopt a student, the spreadsheet will be linked here. The deadline is Dec. 9.

If you can’t adopt a student, gifts cards or check are acceptable and should be made out to “LHS ABC.”
