DC Comics released its first project of 2022, “Peacemaker,” a TV series which premiered its first three episodes on Jan. 13 on HBOMax. The show is a spinoff of 2021 film “The Suicide Squad” and will have eight episodes with the finale airing Feb. 17.

DC has been struggling to set up their own cinematic universe to keep up with Marvel’s. DC began its comeback in 2021 with “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” and “The Suicide Squad.” Both “Peacemaker” and “The Suicide Sqaud” were written and directed by James Gunn. Gunn has begn to turn things around for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), with the amazing success of “The Suicide Squad.”

“Peacemaker” continues after “The Suicide Squad” with the anti-hero Peacemaker (John Cena) trying to create world peace. Peacemaker joins a covert team to try and eliminate creatures called “Butterflies,” so far they are the big mystery of the series. Supporting characters, like Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Peacemaker’s friend and Leota (Danielle Brooks), a task force agent, provide some of the most hilarious scenes so far. The show delivers action and hilarious dark comedy, which go together really well. The show does have a lot of blood and gore, which add to the well-choreographed action scenes.

I expect this show to get even better with its comedy and explore the characters more from what I’ve seen in trailers. The show has been hilarious to watch, with an interesting story about a character I originally really didn’t like, who has started to grow on me. Over the course of the first few episodes, Peacemaker has been more three dimensional then he originally was.

“Peacemaker” is definitely worth the watch if you’re into adult comedy and gory action. The show’s interesting plot and action scenes will keep me coming back for more every week. The show will release new episodes every Thursday, and I am looking forward to the new episodes.
