As Homecoming draws to a close, one out of five nominees will be named queen at the Homecoming football game. Here’s a look at the nominees.
-
Chan-hee Kim: band
Chan-hee Kim is a drum major and flute player in band. She said she didn’t plan to be nominated for Homecoming queen, but that being in one of the largest organizations at the school sets her apart from the other nominees.
“It’s a nice opportunity to represent my organization,” Kim said. “I didn’t really think I was [going to] make it that far.”
She said had different goals for Homecoming, so winning Homecoming queen isn’t her biggest priority. However, she still said she feels honored to be nominated.
“It’s already such a blessing to be on the court,” Kim said. “I didn’t really anticipate it, but I'm grateful for the opportunity.”

Mackenzie Knutson: volleyball
Another contender for Homecoming queen, Mackenzie Knutson is on the volleyball team, National Honor Society, student council and Pals.
“It’s just fun to get the recognition and honor to represent your program,” Knutson said. “It's a cool opportunity.”
Knutson said she expected one of the seniors on the volleyball team to be on the court, but due to the fact that the entire team voted for whoever they wanted, she said she wasn’t expecting to be nominated herself. Despite the girls on the court representing different organizations, Knutson said she thinks they still have things in common.
“[The queen nominees] have very similar ideologies thinking-wise,” Knutson said. “I’ll just be happy for whoever wins.”

Sloan Wozniak: cheer
Sloan Wozniak said that she didn’t expect to be nominated, but that it's an awesome experience and a good memory to be on the Homecoming court.
“When I’m older, I [want to] look back on [this experience] and remember it as something I did in high school,” Wozniak said.
Wozniak is the cheer captain, involved in Hands of Hope, student council and various honors societies. Wozniak said she was nominated unexpectedly by her friends, so even being on the court is exciting to her.
“I would honestly be happy if anyone on the court won,” Wozniak said. “Everyone’s super nice.”
-
Hannah Delay: soccer
Hannah Delay said she didn’t expect to be nominated either. Delay is on the soccer and cross country teams; sports she grew up playing with her friends.
“I didn’t [even] think about being on the court,” Delay said. “I was telling my friends [to] vote for me, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere.”
Along with her sports, Delay is in student council and National Honor Society. She said that being in all of these organizations helps her represent the school well, making her a good fit for Homecoming queen. Unlike the previous nominees, Delay has a stronger desire to win.
“My sister won [Homecoming queen] a couple years ago when she was in high school,” Delay said. “So, it’d be cool if I won, [too.]”

Desiria Mitchell: Black Student Union
The final contender for Homecoming queen, Desiria Mitchell, also has background motivation to win. She was a nominee for junior princess last year, but didn’t win because she said she didn’t take it seriously.
“I wasn’t ready for it [last year], but this year I [am].” Mitchell said.
Mitchell is part of the Black Student Union, and said she wants to win to represent that organization. She said that she has motivation and ambition, which sets her apart from the other contenders.
“When I [have] my mind set on something, it's set,” Mitchell said. “I’m [going to] do everything in my power to get what I want.”
