Senior Krishna Nair rehearses a song for his singing audition on Sept. 12 in the auditorium. Nair is auditioning for the lead role of the musical. “This is going be my fourth year [auditioning] for the musical,” Nair said. “Everyone can audition for it, so it means I get to meet new people, and that’s going to be really fun.

Theater will hold auditions in the auditorium Sept. 16-18 for this year’s musical, “The Little Mermaid.”

Dance auditions will be on Sept. 16 after school from 3:45 – 6 p.m. and singing auditions will be Sept. 17 and 18 from 4 – 7:30 p.m.

Students participating in dance auditions for the musical will be placed into small performance groups in their auditions. Five judges will rank them based on how well the students dance with their groups. Singing auditions will be scheduled by the time slots students sign up for.

“They’ll have a few minutes to sing, and [the judges] will adjust things on the spot and see how they respond to the adjustments, and they can come back in and sing it again,” theater director Ryan Heitzman said.

Theater has performed musicals in the past such as ‘Seussical’ in 2017 and ‘Newsies’ in 2019. Heitzman said the expectations are set high for the students auditioning.

“We are going to wait to see what happens with the kids who show up to the [auditions],” Heitzman said. “Our expectation is that everyone who comes in to audition does their best, and we’ll be able to see who fits what part [best].”
