The wrestling team will compete in district a meet on Feb. 3 in the Coppell High School Arena starting at 10 a.m. The meet was delayed from its original Feb.1 date due to the weather.

Senior Stephanie Negrete has been on the varsity wrestling team all four years of her high school career, and placed first in last year’s district meet.

“We’ve been running a lot of practices and extra drills that we didn’t do much of last year – more live-wrestling and making sure we’re staying on top of our weights,” Negrete said.

Head wrestling coach Jacob Green has led the team this year. This is Green’s first year coaching at Hebron as he had previously been coaching wrestling on and off at high schools around the Bismarck area in North Dakota.

“I’m just trying to keep my kids focused,” Green said. “[Their] wrestling is good, it’s just they’ll get unfocused and worry about things that aren’t [about] the match at hand, so when that happens, they don’t perform as well.”

Last year’s district meet resulted in eight individuals, including sophomore Brandon Rosales, junior Joshua Cantrell and seniors Cain Green, Kason Mitchell, AJ Lovett, Gonzales Montes and Stephanie Negrete  moving onto regionals.

“I feel pretty confident [in the team],” Green said. “I’m expecting five or maybe a couple more [wrestlers] to move onto regionals, [so] we have a pretty good shot [at it].”
