Senior Miguel Amason warms up by tossing a baseball to senior Cooper Griffith. The baseball team practices every day during fourth period and after school.

The baseball team will scrimmage against Byron Nelson tomorrow at 4 p.m.

“I always just look forward to every new season,” head coach Stephen Stone said. “You never know what’s going to happen. You don’t know which players are going to step up. A thing we talk about with our players is that it’s their chance to shine, and I’m hoping they embrace that.”

Last year the team lost several senior starters, and they only have three starters returning.

“Our weakness right now is probably just lack of experience,” Stone said. “We have some guys that I feel will do the job, but we haven’t seen them in action. Practice is one thing, but turning on the lights and scoreboard are another thing. I think we lack experience, but I think these kids will rise to the occasion.”

The team starts its district games on Feb. 24 against Plano East. Last year, the team made it to the first round of playoffs but lost against Prosper.

“Our district is really tough, just like with most of the sports here,” Stone said. “Flower Mound, Marcus and Coppell tend to have really strong state-rank squads every year. No different than any other year, but we will find a way to get it done.”
