Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday that takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to support local businesses, such as the various shops within the Bishop Arts District. 

The Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff has over 60 independent boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops and art galleries. The small, town-like street located in a big city is seen as a hidden gem visited by many tourists. However, because of COVID-19, fewer people are visiting these small businesses since online shopping is seen as a safer and more convenient option. The Bishop Arts District has partnered with Methodist hospital to make the area safer and has implemented the 3W rule, which is to wear a mask, wash your hands and watch your distance.

“I was glad that they made the outdoor experience safer for visitors by having sinks to wash your hands and hand sanitizer available along the street,” junior Nandita Kumar said.

Mosaic, a small business on the corner of Bishop Street, sells handmade objects made by women in their homes. The business has candles, shirts, jewelry and many other female-designed products to support and promote their local goods.
