Bravo theater presents “Beggar’s Opera”

Bravo theater will be presenting “Beggar’s Opera” in the auditorium on Nov. 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.

A play inside a play, “Beggar’s Opera” tells the story of a love triangle between highwayman Macheath, the Peachum’s daughter Polly and the jailer’s daughter Lucy, who is pregnant with Macheath’s child. The Peachums discover their daughter is married to Macheath and send him to prison. Once in prison, Macheath continues to face the consequences of loving multiple woman at the same time.

“The play takes place around the 1720’s and is about a group of poor beggars,” junior Caroline Wagner said. “The beggars are trying to put on a play, but it doesn’t go that well. It’s a really funny storyline.”

Bravo has been rehearsing for three months to make sure the play is successful and entertaining for the audience.

“We have been doing blocking and runs almost everyday,” Wagner said. “Along with that, the crew has done character research and table work. We’ve put a lot of work into the show and hope it turns out great.”
