The golf team practices in the arena before the upcoming tournament. The team practices daily during fourth period.

The golf team will compete at the Collegiate Preview hosted by Hebron Golf on Jan. 16 and 17. The tournament will take place at the Lakes at Castle Hills golf course and the tee time will be 8 a.m. for both days.

“I’m always excited to see how our players are going to do,” assistant golf coach Kurt Grawunder said. “We have a good field with some good teams that are going to be [competing] in this [tournament]. It gives us a good opportunity to see where we’re at as we start the spring season.”

To prepare for this tournament, as well as the spring season, players have been practicing daily and working on strategy. After the fall season, players have gained more experience and Grawunder said that overall, individual scoring averages have improved.

“The girls [team] goal is to improve by the time we get to district and hopefully put together a couple good rounds to get us to regionals,” Grawunder said. “That’s always the goal– just keep going. [On] the boys [side], we lost three seniors from last year’s team. We have two returners and [had] three new [players] join the team. [I’m] just watching the three [new players] join the team and continue to improve on our overall game.”

Grawunder said that the team environment is positive and has a great sense of camaraderie.

“We have a lot of fun,” girls team captain and sophomore Stalee Fields said. “We’re like a family; we all support each other and want each other to do well.”

The girls team won state 2021, and there are high hopes the team will qualify and win again this season.

“We don’t give up and we don’t shy away from a fight,” boys team captain and junior Jace Boslow said. “I hope that we’re able to go to state, and I think we’ve got a decent chance of winning.”
