Snuggle up next to the fire and get ready for the staff’s winter playlist.

“Carol of the Bells” has always been a favorite of mine ever since I listened to it in second grade. The tune of the song gets easily stuck into your head. The Pentatonix are a really talented group and they have great versions of Christmas songs. I really like how they put their own twist into it. This is the type of song you hum until the day of Christmas, just to get into the spirit of the merry time of year. Although this song isn’t a traditional winter song, “A Sky Full of Stars” gives me a sense of peace. It reminds me of a cloudy, snowy day and it represents the night sky shining bright in an open field. It’s a song that allows you to escape into a world outside your own, just like Coldplay’s other songs.

I picked “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Buble because it just gets you in the mood for the holidays and the cold weather. It’s upbeat and sweet, and that’s what I really like about it. I also picked “All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey. I chose this because it’s an all-time favorite song for the holidays that everyone enjoys.

Pentatonix’s unique style of using only vocals adds to the spiritual feel of “Hallelujah,” a great, moving song. “Jingle Bells” is simply a classic. It doesn’t feel like Christmas without singing along to this song at least once.

I think “Drummer Boy” is a good song for the holidays because it’s super catchy and makes me think of Christmas. When I think about the holidays, “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” is one of the first songs that comes to mind. This song reminds me of Christmas day with my friends and family.

Elf is one of my favorite musicals ever. It’s a cute musical version of the movie Elf. “A Christmas Song” is where Buddy and Jodi go ice skating, and start getting closer. Buddy rekindles Jodi’s Christmas spirit and helps her find her singing voice. A Christmas Song is a sweet, bouncy, romantic song that everyone will enjoy. “We Need A Little Christmas” is such a fun song. I’ve heard the song constant times, but I’ve never seen the musical it’s from, Mame. We Need A Little Christmas is a happy song that is super fun to dance to, and gets people in the holiday spirit.

This is a really obvious winter song but this playlist can’t be a winter playlist without “Let It Go” and the rest of the Frozen soundtrack. I chose this mainly because of the wintery scene you can see in the music videos. Elsa’s ice castle and the snow surrounding her basically illustrates what I now see when I hear the word winter.

One of my favorite holidays in the year is Christmas. I love everything about Christmas: the decorations, the holiday themed drinks and food, and the cold weather. Every year, I usually play Christmas music while putting the Christmas tree up and these songs are my top favorites to listen to. Not only are “Hallelujah” and “Mistletoe” songs by my favorite artists, but they’re Christmas songs [that] get me spirited throughout the winter.

My dad has always been one of the biggest Elvis fans, so when the holiday season comes around, Elvis’ Christmas Album comes out. Though I am a fan of the whole album, my favorite has always been “Blue Christmas.” It goes against the grain of most Christmas songs, with a more melancholy feel paired with Elvis’ typical bluesy sound. In the wake of Cohen’s death, I’ve found myself listening to his music a lot more. A favorite of mine has been and always will be “Hallelujah,” which also happens to be the perfect holiday song. Though it’s on the sad side once again, it just makes you want to curl up in front of the fireplace and hug your family.

I absolutely love the tune of “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” and how playful the song is. “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” is one of my all-time favorite songs. I’m constantly listening to it so this song would be great any season, but something about staying at home wrapped in a cozy blanket drinking hot chocolate makes the song even better.
