Sophomore Nate Mercer dribbles the ball toward the basket through a tough defense on Nov. 13. Mercer was a vital component of the team’s performance, as he had 10 points and four steals in the narrow win against Reedy high school.

Boys basketball will play a home game against McKinney Boyd on Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the main gym.

“The season so far has been good,” Head coach Eric Reil said. “The boys have been working really hard and they have had a great attitude. Thankfully, up to this point, we have been healthy. So we’ve had no issues there, and everything has been pretty smooth so far.”

Due to UIL pushing back volleyball’s schedule, the gym has been a hectic place for the boys to practice because of the limited amount of space.

“We have had to share the gym with volleyball, and girls’ basketball started, so it’s been busier for everyone,” Reil said. “It’s been a little crazy, but the guys have handled it well, and I think we got a lot out of the last week of practice.”

The team last played McKinney Boyd two years ago when they were in the district. Reil said their team will play aggressively, but he does not know what to expect.

“We played them two years ago, but have not played them since because they were not in the district,” Reil said. “They will be competitive and fierce. They will get the ball up and down the floor. I haven’t looked at anything about [McKinney Boyd] for a while, so it will be hard to say, but it should be a good game for us.”
